Tourism in Pondicherry has its roots in the colonial era when the French East India Company established the city as their headquarters in the late 17th century. The French War Memorial, located on the famous Goubert Avenue or the Beach Road, is a significant landmark that further underscores Pondicherry's historical depth and the legacy of its French connection.
