Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, is a spiritual community established by Sri Aurobindo and a French-born woman named Mirra Alfassa, known as 'The Mother.' Founded on November 24, 1926, the Ashram has grown into a diversified community with thousands of members. The main Ashram building is where Sri Aurobindo and The Mother's mortal remains are enshrined. The tranquil atmosphere of the Ashram and the samadhi (mausoleum) is a central point for followers to concentrate on spiritual practices. The Ashram promotes the practice of Integral Yoga, a concept developed by Sri Aurobindo that aims to advance the evolution of human life into a divine life. It includes education, culture, art, and the establishment of a new society as envisioned by The Mother. Pondicherry's Ashram is also known for its various units that contribute to both the spiritual community and the local economy, including handmade paper production, agriculture, and healthcare facilities. Visitors can experience the spiritual essence and serenity of the Ashram along with various cultural and educational activities.
