Gokyo Lake is a breathtaking high-altitude lake located in Nepal's Sagarmatha National Park, amidst the mighty Himalayas. It is a part of the Gokyo Lakes system, a series of six main lakes of which Gokyo Cho, also known as Dudh Pokhari, is the largest. At an altitude of 4,700 to 5,000 meters above sea level, these lakes are amongst the highest freshwater lake systems in the world. The lakes are in a remote area, requiring days of trekking to reach, thus they are less crowded than the nearby Everest Base Camp trek. This majestic location offers spectacular views of snow-clad mountain peaks, glaciers, and dramatic landscapes. It is considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. The azure blue waters of the lakes reflect the surrounding snowy mountains, creating a surreal ambiance. In addition to its natural beauty, Gokyo Lakes are significant for biological diversity, conservation, and are a critical water source for the downstream communities. Gokyo Ri, a peak beside the lake, provides panoramic views of Everest and other Himalayan giants. The Gokyo Valley trek is a popular alternative route for those seeking a less traveled path in the Everest region.
