Located amidst the beautiful hill station of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, Guna Caves attract tourists with their mystic beauty and fascinating formations. The best time to visit these intriguing structures, also known as the Devil's Kitchen, is during the post-monsoon and winter months. Starting from October to March, visitors can indulge in the most pleasant weather conditions. During this period, the temperature ranges from 10°C to 15°C, creating an ideal setting for exploration without the hindrance of excessive rain or the mist associated with the monsoon. The clear skies and reduced fog improve visibility, permitting a better view of the cave’s interiors and the surrounding environment which is lush and vibrant, particularly right after the monsoons.
Although the caves can be visited throughout the year, the monsoon season, which falls between June to September, is usually less recommended due to the heavy rainfall and potential landslides that make the hike towards the caves more challenging. The thick fog during this time not only obscures visibility but also makes the terrain slippery and increases the risk of accidents. On the contrary, the summer months from April to June see an influx of tourists trying to escape the heat of the plains, which can make the visit less peaceful due to crowding. However, if you aim to avoid the crowd while enjoying good weather, visiting Guna Caves during the weekdays in the recommended months, preferably in the mornings when the site opens, would be the most suitable choice.
