How To Reach Gyeongbokgung Palace

Reaching Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea

By Subway: The most convenient way to reach Gyeongbokgung Palace is by Seoul’s excellent subway system. Take the Seoul Metro Line 3 to Gyeongbokgung Station (Exit 5). You will emerge directly outside of the Palace grounds.

By Bus: Various buses also serve the Gyeongbokgung Palace area. You can take one of the following buses and alight at the corresponding bus stops:

  • Main Palace Entrance: Take buses 109, 171, 272, 601, or 606 to the 'Gyeongbokgung Palace' stop.
  • National Folk Museum: These buses - 1020, 7025, or 7212 - will take you to the stop near the National Folk Museum, which is on the palace grounds.
  • Northern Palace Entrance: Choose buses 1020, 7025, 7212 or 6011 to get to the North Gate, 'Gyeongbokgung North Gate' stop.

By Taxi: Taxis are a convenient although more expensive alternative to reach the palace. Just tell the driver “Gyeongbokgung Palace” (경복궁 in Korean).

Walking: If you're nearby, the Palace is within walking distance from other cultural attractions such as Cheonggyecheon Stream, and the neighborhoods of Insadong and Samcheong-dong.

Opening Hours

Gyeongbokgung Palace is open from Wednesday to Monday, as it is closed on Tuesdays. Opening hours may vary by season, so please check in advance for the exact times during your visit.

Additional Tips

For a richer experience, consider timing your visit with the Royal Guard Changing Ceremony, which occurs at the Gwanghwamun gate, and check if free English tours are available on the day of your visit.
