Welcome to Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, Jorhat, Assam

Best Time to Visit

The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is an oasis of biodiversity, primarily known for being home to the only apes in India, the Hoolock Gibbons. To make the most out of your visit, the ideal time to explore this lush expanse is from October to April. During these months, the weather is comparatively dry and cool, which not only is comfortable for trekkers but also offers the best wildlife viewing opportunities. The monsoons from May to September bring heavy rainfall, which can lead to difficult trekking conditions and limited animal sightings due to thick undergrowth.

Moreover, the winter months, especially from November to February, are recommended for birdwatchers, as this is the period when migratory birds visit the sanctuary, enhancing the avi-faunal diversity of the region. Mornings are arguably the best time of day to spot the Gibbons when they are most active. The sanctuary's cool and misty mornings provide a magical and serene atmosphere, perfect for photography and immersing oneself in the sounds of the forest. It is advisable to plan your trip in advance and consider hiring a local guide to enrich your experience with expert insights on flora and fauna of the sanctuary.
