Indo-Portuguese Museum Tourism

The Indo-Portuguese Museum in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India, is a cultural and historical landmark showcasing the Portuguese influence on the Malabar coast's art and architecture, especially in the domain of Church art. It is situated within the compound of the Bishop's House near the Fort Cochin area, significant for its colonial history and architecture. The museum was established by the late Dr. Joseph Kureethra, Bishop of Kochi, in an effort to protect and showcase the rich cultural heritage and Portuguese influences. The museum is divided into five main sections: Altar, Treasure, Procession, Civil Life, and Cathedral, each holding artifacts meticulously sourced and preserved, including a valuable collection of coins, statues, vestments, and cassocks adorned by the clergy. The museum thus stands not only as a reminder of the historical Portuguese influence but also as a testament to the synthesis of Indo-European art and culture.
