How To Reach Jerusalem (Israel) In 2026 - 2027

Traveling to Jerusalem, Israel

Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel, is accessible through a variety of ways. Here is a comprehensive guide to reaching this historic destination:

By Air

The primary entry point for international travelers is Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) near Tel Aviv. From the airport, Jerusalem can be reached by the following means:

• Rail: There is a direct train from Ben Gurion Airport to Jerusalem’s Yitzhak Navon station which takes approximately 30 minutes. The service is frequent and reasonably priced.
• Shuttle Service: Shared shuttle services, like Nesher Tours, offer door-to-door transportation from the airport to your accommodation in Jerusalem.
• Bus: Egged bus lines and shuttle services operate between the airport and Jerusalem. They can take longer than the train due to stops and traffic, but they are cost-effective.
• Taxi: Taxis are available at the official taxi stand. Make sure to use licensed taxis and confirm the fare in advance.
• Rental Car: Car rental companies are located at the airport for those preferring to drive themselves. The trip to Jerusalem takes about an hour via Route 1.

By Road

Jerusalem is well-connected by road with other Israeli cities:

• Buses: The central bus station in Jerusalem is served by Egged public buses, offering frequent service from major cities such as Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Eilat.
• Car: An extensive network of highways makes it simple to reach Jerusalem by car. Routes 1 and 443 connect the city with Tel Aviv and the coastal plain.

By Train

Israel Railways operates train services between Jerusalem and various cities. The recently opened high-speed train between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem offers a fast and scenic journey.

Entering Jerusalem by International Land Crossings

If coming from neighboring countries, you can enter Israel via land crossings from Jordan at Allenby/King Hussein Bridge, Jordan River Crossing/Northern Crossing, or Yitzhak Rabin Crossing/Wadi Araba Crossing near Eilat. From Egypt, the Taba Border Crossing is the gateway. Onward travel to Jerusalem from these crossings can be by bus, shuttle service, or rental car.

Essential Tips for Visiting Jerusalem

• Ensure your travel documents are in order, including a visa if required for your nationality.
• Check the local holidays and Shabbat (sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday), as transportation can be limited during these times.
• Travel insurance is highly recommended for any unexpected health issues or travel disruptions.
• Consider the cultural sensitivity of Jerusalem; modest dress is advised, particularly when visiting religious sites.

Regardless of how you choose to reach Jerusalem, ensure you plan your journey in advance, considering local customs, and stay informed about the current travel regulations related to Israel.
