Best Time to Visit Kandy Garrison Cemetery

The Kandy Garrison Cemetery in Kandy, Sri Lanka, is a tranquil and historic site located near the renowned Temple of the Tooth Relic. The best time to visit the cemetery is during the dry season, which spans from December to April. During these months, you will experience less rainfall and more predictable weather, making it ideal for exploring the outdoors and appreciating the historic gravestones without interruption. Mornings are particularly suitable for visits as the weather is cooler and the soft light provides a serene atmosphere to the peaceful resting place of many British nationals who lived and died in Kandy during the colonial era.

Moreover, the period from January to March is noteworthy due to the comfortable temperature and minimal rainfall, which renders the grounds of the cemetery easy to navigate. Visiting during this timeframe allows for a more relaxed and contemplative experience, where you can take the time to read the inscriptions and understand the history behind each grave. Additionally, it's advisable to avoid the main rainy seasons, from May to July and October to November, as the heavy downpours can lead to muddy pathways and obscure the beauty and tranquility of the Kandy Garrison Cemetery.
