Ezhimala Hill, located near Payyanur in the Kannur district of Kerala, India, is renowned not just for its scenic beauty but also for its historical significance. With an altitude of 286 meters, it is one of the tallest peaks in the region. Encapsulating a rich past, the hill is believed to have been a flourishing seaport and center of trade as early as the 3rd century BC and was known by the name of 'Ezhil Malai' which translates to 'high land'. According to legends, it is considered to be the capital of the ancient Mooshika kings and holds a significant place in the Hindu epic Ramayana, as it is thought to be the resting place of Lord Hanuman. The hill is dotted with ancient stone carvings, burial chambers, and an old mosque. In modern times, it is also the site for the Indian Naval Academy (INA), the largest of its type in Asia. Ezhimala's ecosystem is a unique mix of mountainous terrain covered with lush greenery, offering a habitat to various species of flora and fauna. The view of the surrounding landscape and Arabian Sea from the summit is breathtaking, making it a favorite spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
