Keoladeo Ghana National Park, widely known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, is a renowned avifauna sanctuary in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. With over 230 species of birds, it is one of the world's most important bird breeding and feeding grounds. Established in 1982 as a national park, Keoladeo was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The park's mosaic of dry grasslands, woodlands, swamps, and wetlands, spread over 29 square kilometers, supports an astonishing diversity of flora and fauna, including numerous migratory birds such as the famous Siberian Crane. Beyond birds, it is also inhabited by mammals like the Golden Jackal, Striped Hyena, and Sambar Deer. The park is a human-made and human-managed wetland and one of the national parks that does not revolve around large mammals, highlighting the intricate ecosystem balance and conservation efforts focused on avian life.
