Korlai Fort, perched on a hill at the small village of Korlai in Alibaug, Maharashtra, is a Portuguese fortification that conjoins Arabian Sea and Revdanda Creek. Built in 1521, the fort was once a military fortress used to guard the approach to the River Revdanda. It stands as a sentinel overlooking the vast blue expanse with its ruins telling tales of bygone battles. The structure, dressed in the history and flanked by the azure waters, offers an enchanting view of the coastline. It is known for its lighthouse and the unique blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures in the town of Korlai. The Korlai Fort complex houses seven gates, a church in disuse, a dedicated Lighthouse and remnants of the living quarters. The inscriptions in Portuguese are still visible on many walls and gateways. To reach the fort, visitors have to traverse a steep path, which makes the journey an adventurous one. The spectacular views from the top are rewarding with panoramic vistas of the sea on three sides and the picturesque landscape of the Konkan region.
