Lohagad Fort, situated near Lonavala in Maharashtra, India, is a historical hill fortress that rises to an elevation of about 1033 meters above sea level. It is one of the many hill forts of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, holding a significant place in Maratha history. The fort's strategic location made it a formidable watchtower, controlling the trade routes along the Sahyadris. Lohagad divides the basins of the Indrayani and Pavana rivers and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The impressive fortification walls, the four large gates - Ganesh, Narayan, Hanuman, and Maha Darwaja - and the ancient architecture are notable features. The fort is accessible via a trek, which is both picturesque and moderately challenging, making it popular among hikers and history enthusiasts alike. The climb includes a series of 500 steps cut into the rocky hillside leading to the top, where you can explore the expansive fortification, the 'Vinchu Kata' - a range of hills that look like the tail of a scorpion, and beautiful views of Pawna Lake.
