Visit Majuli Island - The Ideal Seasons

Majuli Island, located in Jorhat, Assam, is one of the most picturesque and culturally rich destinations in India. The best time to visit this riverine island in the Brahmaputra River is between the months of October to March. During this period, the monsoon season has ended, and the weather is comparatively cooler and pleasant, which is perfect for exploring the island's vibrant culture, festivals, and natural beauty. The post-monsoon period ensures that the floodwaters have receded, making the island more accessible and safer for visitors. It is also the time for Raas Leela, a significant festival showcasing the region's rich traditions through dance and drama, held in November, which brings the island's cultural ethos to life.

Winter season, particularly from November to February, is also ideal for observing rare migratory birds that flock to this region, making it a haven for birdwatchers. The comfortable temperatures during these months, usually ranging from 12°C to 25°C, make sightseeing and outdoor activities like pottery-making, mask-making, and handloom very enjoyable. Furthermore, this season reduces the mosquito menace, which can be quite severe during the monsoon. Thus, for a seamless and captivating experience on Majuli Island, planning your visit during these cooler months is highly recommended.
