Visiting Mar Saba Through the Ages

Historically, visiting Mar Saba was an arduous pilgrimage. Travelers from all over Christendom would venture through challenging terrain to seek the wisdom of its monks or to visit the site where St. Sabbas lived and prayed. The Latest Tourism Trends

Today, with improved transportation and growing interest in religious and cultural tourism, Mar Saba is more accessible, although still relatively isolated. Modern trends see a diversification in the type of tourist interested in the monastery. While the majority are still pilgrims visiting the Holy Land, there are also history enthusiasts, hikers, and those fascinated by the monastery's architecture.
