Rabdentse Ruins in Pelling, Sikkim, India, are the archaeological remains of what was once the capital of the kingdom of Sikkim. The site is located near Pemayangtse Monastery and offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range. Established in the 17th century by the second Chogyal (king) of Sikkim, Tensung Namgyal, Rabdentse was the seat of the Sikkimese government until it was destroyed in the 18th century during the Nepalese invasion. Today, visitors can explore the ruins that include chortens, a palace, and monastic quarters, giving a glimpse into the historical grandeur. The site is part of Buddhist pilgrimage circuit, which includes the Dubdi Monastery, Sanga Choeling Monastery, and Pemayangtse Monastery. The ruins are accessible through a forested path, which adds an adventurous feel to the visit, and the site is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India as a protected monument.
