Ralang Monastery, located near Namchi in South Sikkim, India, is an important Buddhist shrine that epitomizes serenity and religious significance. It’s about a 13 km drive from Ravangla and was constructed in 1995 to mirror the Kagyu sect monastery in Tibet. Being one of the most significant and biggest monasteries in Sikkim, it holds within its sanctums a rich collection of paintings and thangka art that convey stories of the Buddhist cosmos. The monastery’s architecture boasts intricate Tibetan designs and provides a panoramic view of the Himalayas. Festivals like Pang Lhabsol and Kagyed Dance are celebrated with zest, showcasing masked dances and an influx of pilgrims. In its vicinity, the Ralang Chaam or monastery premises turns into a hub for cultural and spiritual festivities. Ralang Monastery also offers a learning ground for monks, preserving Buddhist teachings and a way of life.
