Type of destination: Spiritual Site
Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Samdruptse Hill, located near Namchi in South Sikkim, India, is famed for the spectacular statue of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, who is venerated as the patron saint of Sikkim. Atop the Samdruptse hill, which translates to 'Wish Fulfilling Hill', the magnificent statue stands at a striking height of 45 meters, making it one of the tallest statues of its kind in the world. It was consecrated by the Dalai Lama and has since been a beacon of spiritual significance and pilgrimage. Made of copper and gilded with gold, the awe-inspiring statue is visible from afar and embellishes the already lush and serene landscape of the Sikkim Himalayas. It overlooks a panoramic view of the mountain ranges including the Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. The hill provides a tranquil retreat combined with contemplative spaces around the statue with several prayer wheels, meditation cells and the Ngadak Monastery nearby, which adds to the religious ambiance of the place.

A peaceful Buddhist temple on top of the hill. It has huge "Dharma Chakra" which we can rotate by hand as a practice on any Buddhist temples.
