Sahastralinga Talav is a medieval artificial water tank in the ancient city of Patan, Gujarat, India. Situated north-west of the famous Patola Saris workshops, it was built around the 11th and 12th centuries, during the Chalukya Dynasty's reign. The name 'Sahastralinga' translates to 'a thousand Shiva lingas,' which were once believed to be consecrated here. This tank exemplifies the advanced hydraulic engineering of the ancient Gujarat civilizations, designed to collect and channel water through a complex system of canals and channels from the nearby Saraswati River. Over the years, the Talav has dried up and suffered from neglect. However, it remains a testament to the architectural and technological prowess of its creators. The tank has square steps leading down to the now-dry waterbed, while the surrounding architecture includes remnants of terraces, pavilions, and platforms that demonstrate a blend of religious and utilitarian purposes.

Heritage without maintenance
The place has great historical value. But it is not properly maintained. Few Tourists too make the place untidy

Nothing much to offer, can be avoided.
Nearby Rani ki Vav, but nothing much to see.The dry lake has remnants of old Shiv Temple and other architecture.Small garden around is well maintained. Not worth visiting .

Over-rated
While it figures amongst the top sightseeing options in Patan, the place is a bit of a let-down. It is neither well-maintained nor tourist-friendly in terms of guidance, signboards etc.

Visit if you have spare 30mins in Patan
There is no information about the place on spot. Not even proper labeling. It is more picnic place for locals rather than a historical place. We'll developed garder is there. Place is clean.

Must visit if you are fond of historic monuments & heritage sites!
The ruins of this medieval era artificial water tank look marvellous. But it’s not very well maintained. The government must take necessary measures to preserve this ancient heritage of Gujarat...
