Best Time to Visit Sammilan Shetty’s Butterfly Park, Mangalore

Sammilan Shetty’s Butterfly Park, located near Mangalore in Karnataka, India, is a nirvana for lepidopterists and nature lovers. The park, a significant endeavor to conserve and showcase the dazzling diversity of butterflies, thrives best during the monsoon and post-monsoon months. The ideal period to visit is between July and November, when the park is a riot of colors with butterflies emerging and basking in the relatively cooler and pleasant weather. At this time, the flora is in full bloom following the rejuvenating showers, thus providing an ample supply of nectar and host plants for various butterfly species.

During the monsoon season, the climate is usually humid but lush, bringing life to the entire region and making it a picturesque setting signifying new beginnings and natural beauty. However, visitors should note that the Park remains closed during the heavy monsoon season for conservation purposes and maintenance work. It reopens when conditions are favorable again, typically from the second half of August. This period maximizes the probability of witnessing the breeding as well as the metamorphosis process, offering an informative experience alongside the aesthetic enjoyment of the habitat's myriad colors.
