Sanjay Gandhi National Park, located in the northern part of Mumbai, is a unique preserve where the wilderness coexists with the urban metropolis. It spans over 104 sq. km and is widely known for its rich variety of flora and fauna, including over 40 species of mammals, 251 species of birds, and 150 species of butterflies. The park is also home to the ancient Kanheri Caves crafted out of volcanic rock formations. These caves were Buddhist shrines and date back to the 1st century BCE to the 10th century CE. The park boasts a rich historical past alongside its natural beauty, attracting nature enthusiasts, historians, and tourists alike. Visitors can enjoy scenic views, hikes, a toy train ride for children, boating at the artificial lake, and a safari in the lion and tiger park. The park provides a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of city life, with its lush greenery and tranquil surroundings.
