Flamingoes - Thane Creek - A treat to watch
Flamingo Sanctuary is situated near Airoli bridge. Its a calm and serene place with minimal staff and away from the noise of Mumbai. Easy to reach and ample parking space Plan a visit during April, boating is fabulous. I had gone with children, youth and elders (~ 80 years) and no one had any regrets. One suggestion is ask for all info at the ticket counter as there is not much staff around and they will guide you appropriately

FLAMINGO SPECIAL - THANE CREEK (Bhandup Pumping Station)
Flamingo Special : Thane Creek - ???? Maharashtra Government has declared the northern part of Thane Creek as Flamingo Sanctuary in August 2015. This is the Maharashtra State’s Second Marine Sanctuary after Malvan. About 200 species of Birds have been reported in this area. In August 2022, the Thane Creek becomes India’s first RAMSAR site located within an urban metropolis and the largest wetland, third such site in Maharashtra after Nandurmadhyameshwar and Lonar Creek. Thane creek has endangered or threatened bird specie. Aslo there are fauna, species of Zooplankton, Phytoplankton, Butterflies, Insects, Fish, Crustaceans, and Molluscs, and Benthos. The mangrove forest spread all over here serves as a natural buffer zone, shielding the land from storms, tidal surges, seawater invasions, and other natural disasters. There are six species of flamingos found around the world. Among them, Lesser Flamingo (world's smallest flamingo) and Greater Flamingo (Large Flamingo) migrate in India. Kutch in Gujarat State can definitely be said to be the home of the Flamingo, as it is the largest breeding ground for the Flamingos. It is also known as Flamingo City. Flamingo birds migrate in search of food and prevent themselves from the cold.

Worst experience with boating team.
Pathetic Boating/Safari team. First they didnt know how to respond on whatsapp and over a call lady was particularly rude. On the day of ride i reached at bhandup gate where i had to pay extra 200 for camera and entry. Lady over a call disnt guide how to come inside and was only shouting pr scolding over call. This is not the way you treat customers. I was misguided whole time n in the end i was told that i have tomcome from airoli gate. Also jetty had left . I ended up wasting my tkt money plus gate pass amt. also bad experience and ruined early morning. Government should take care and scrutinise what kind of people thy make sit at their front desks and what services they are providing and treatment they give to ppl!!!! Worst pathetic experience

Thane Sewerage Sanctuary
Lovely to see the birds out there. However, major issue - the boat ride is not in clean water but heavily polluted Sewerage waste water of Mumbai. Please carry your masks as the whole creek smells of sewer and chemicals. I feel pity for Mumbai. We have a beautiful site and it is being screwed up by blatant unfiltered sewerage water being emptied into our seas.
