Best Time To Visit Sanjay Gandhi National Park (Thane) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Sanjay Gandhi National Park, located in Thane, Maharashtra, is a popular natural oasis amidst the bustling city of Mumbai. The best time to visit Sanjay Gandhi National Park is during the months of October to March. This period is characterized by cooler and more pleasant weather, making it ideal for exploring the park's rich flora and fauna. The monsoon season, from June to September, rejuvenates the park's vegetation, but the heavy rains can make certain paths inaccessible and outdoor activities may be hindered. However, for those interested in the lush greenery and waterfalls, just post-monsoon can offer a spectacular experience with the forest teeming with new life.

During the October to March window, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as morning nature walks, exploring the 2,400-year-old Kanheri Caves carved out of rocky cliffs, tiger and lion safaris, boating in the artificial lake, and bird watching, since this period also coincides with the migratory season for birds. The cooler months also facilitate a comfortable climate for wildlife spotting as animals are more active in moderate temperatures. It is noteworthy that the park is closed on Mondays for maintenance, so plan your visit accordingly. Additionally, it's advisable to book safaris and other activities in advance during the peak tourist season to ensure availability.
