Shanti Stupa is a white-domed Buddhist stupa located on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh district, in the Ladakh region of India. Inaugurated in 1991 by the 14th Dalai Lama, it's a symbol of the ties between Japan and India. Its construction was a collaborative effort between Japanese Buddhists and the Ladakh Buddhists. The stupa has become one of the most significant and magnificent monuments of peace in the Indian subcontinent. At a height of more than 3,000 meters above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and the Leh Valley. The architecture of Shanti Stupa features a central golden Buddha image seated on a platform depicting the 'turning wheel of Dharma' (Dharmachakra). The stupa is illuminated at night and offers an ethereal sight against the stark backdrop of the Himalayas.

Drove up late in the day to catch the pre-sunset views - these were very good. But there could have been more effective explanations of the views. And, dare one say it, the state of the male washroom..

Visit once
This was the first place we visited on day one. OK place. nothing much to witness. The USP is that it is with in the Leh city's periphery, not too far away.
