How To Reach Siq

Welcome to Petra, Jordan

Reaching the Siq at Petra

The Siq is the main entrance to the ancient city of Petra and is an awe-inspiring narrow gorge that leads directly to the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). Here’s how you can get there:

  1. Traveling to Petra: First, you’ll need to get to the city of Petra itself. You can do this by:
    • Flight to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and then a drive to Petra, which is about 3 hours.
    • Direct buses from Amman and Aqaba or a JETT tourist bus that runs daily.
    • Driving or take a taxi if you prefer your own transport.
  2. From Petra Visitor Center to the Siq: Once you've arrived in Petra, your journey to the Siq begins at the Petra Visitor Center. From there, you have several options:
    • Walking the 1.2-kilometer trail that leads to the Siq’s entrance. This path is known as the Bab as-Siq (Gateway to the Siq).
    • Taking a horse or horse-drawn carriage to the entrance of the Siq, which is part of the entrance fee but tipping the driver is customary for the service.
  3. Through the Siq: Walking through the Siq itself is an experience not to be missed. The narrow passage stretches over 1.2 kilometers and ends at Petra's most iconic structure, the Treasury.
