Best Time to Visit Street of Facades, Petra, Jordan

The Street of Facades is an impressive stretch of monumental tombs carved into the southern cliff face of Petra’s central city. Visiting the ancient site of Petra, including the Street of Facades, is a remarkable experience, and timing your visit can greatly affect the quality of your experience. The ideal time to explore this archaeological wonder is during the spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) seasons. During these months, the weather is more temperate, with mild temperatures that allow for a comfortable exploration of the extensive site. Spring brings with it a bloom of desert flowers, adding a touch of color to the rocky landscape, while autumn provides clear, crisp air perfect for photography.

To avoid the heat of the midday sun and the crowds that often accompany it, plan to visit the Street of Facades early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The site opens at 6 AM, fortuitously aligning with the soft light of sunrise that casts a magical glow on the pink-hued rock facades. Similarly, visiting later in the day can allow you to witness the enchanting effect of the sunset on the stones. During these times, the light is not only better for capturing beautiful photos, but the temperatures are also more bearable. It is worth noting that Petra can be quite crowded during the peak travel seasons, particularly during holiday periods and on weekends, so traveling during the weekdays can offer a more peaceful experience.
