The Sunderdhunga Glacier is located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, India, and is known for its breathtaking natural beauty. The ideal time to plan a visit is between the months of May to June and again from September to November. During this period, the weather is mostly pleasant with clear skies and lesser chances of rain, making it perfect for trekking and enjoying the magnificent views. Summer months offer a refreshing respite from the heat with temperatures ranging around 15°C to 20°C. This is also the time when the region’s flora is in full bloom, adding vibrant colors to the landscape.
Alternatively, the post-monsoon months of September to November provide a clear and crisp atmosphere with the added advantage of less tourist traffic compared to the summer months. The temperature begins to dip progressively, falling to a range of 10°C to 15°C, which is still pleasant for outdoor activities. Note that the region experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon months of July and August, leading to potential landslides and difficult trekking conditions, hence it is advised to avoid planning a trip during this time. Winter months from December to February bring heavy snowfall and are extremely cold, with the temperatures often plummeting below freezing point, which makes the trek to Sunderdhunga Glacier quite challenging and is not recommended for visitors.
