The Char Dham is a set of four pilgrimage sites in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, held in high esteem by Hindus. It comprises Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each of these sites is dedicated to a specific deity. Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and is the source of the Yamuna River. Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and is the source of the Ganges River. Kedarnath is where one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is worshipped. Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. These sites are nestled amongst the serene beauty of the Himalayas and are visited by thousands of devotees every year seeking spiritual solace and purification. The pilgrimage to the Char Dham is considered to be a journey of a lifetime, with the natural splendor of the mountains providing a backdrop to this spiritual quest. However, due to extreme weather conditions, the sites are only open for about six months each year, generally between April/May and November.
