Ta Dzong, located in Paro, is not directly associated with food history as it is a historic watchtower constructed in 1649 to protect Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars. Later, it was converted into the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968. However, Paro Valley, where Ta Dzong is situated, plays an important role in Bhutanese culinary traditions. The fertile lands of Paro grow a variety of crops like red rice, apples, and chillies which are staples in Bhutanese cuisine. Traditional Bhutanese food focuses on locally sourced ingredients and includes a range of vibrant and spicy dishes that have been passed down through generations.
