The Forbidden City, a historic palace complex in the heart of Beijing, is one of China’s most significant cultural treasures. Here's how to get there:

By Air

Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is the primary international gateway for travelers coming by air. Upon arrival, you can choose among several transport options to reach The Forbidden City.

  • Airport Express Train to Dongzhimen and then change to Subway Line 2 to get to Qianmen Station.
  • Taxi Service is available directly from the airport, although traffic might affect travel time.

By Train

Beijing has multiple train stations receiving high-speed trains from across China. The main ones are:

  • Beijing Railway Station: Take Subway Line 1 to Tiananmen East or Tiananmen West.
  • Beijing West Railway Station: Take Subway Line 9 to Military Museum, then transfer to Line 1 to Tiananmen West.
  • Beijing South Railway Station: Take Line 4 to Xidan, then change to Line 1 for Tiananmen West.

By Metro

Subway Lines 1 (Tiananmen East or Tiananmen West stations) and Line 2 (Qianmen Station) bring you within walking distance to The Forbidden City. Follow the signs leading to the Tiananmen Gate, from where you can proceed to the Meridian Gate (Wu Men), the main entrance to The Forbidden City.

By Bus

Multiple bus routes serve the area around The Forbidden City. Key bus stops include:

  • Tiananmen East: Bus No. 1, 2, 52, 59, 82, 120, Sightseeing Bus 2.
  • Tiananmen West: Bus No. 1, 5, 52, Sightseeing Bus 1.

Remember to check the opening hours before your visit and note that The Forbidden City is closed on Mondays, except for national holidays and during July and August.
