Best Time to Visit Thekkady, Kerala

The ideal period for visiting Thekkady, renowned for its lush greenery and diverse wildlife, is during the cooler months, from October to February. This period offers a pleasant and comfortable climate, featuring temperatures that typically range from 15°C to 21°C. It's the perfect time for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers to explore the famous Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Visitors can indulge in boat rides on the Periyar Lake where they might spot animals quenching their thirst on the lake's edges. Moreover, the cooler weather is excellent for enjoying outdoor activities such as jungle safaris, bamboo rafting, border hiking, and elephant rides, making it the peak tourist season in Thekkady.

During these months, the rainfall is minimal, allowing tourists to make the most of their trip without the interference of heavy showers that can disrupt travel plans and outdoor activities. Additionally, the months of December and January may see large crowds due to festive seasons and end-of-year vacations. For those looking to avoid the crowd, the shoulder season, which is the months of September and March, might be more suitable. The weather during these periods is still pleasant, and visitors can enjoy Thekkady's splendor with slightly fewer tourists. However, travelers should note that summertime, which begins in March and lasts until May, can be quite hot with temperatures soaring above 35°C, which might not be ideal for everyone.
