Best Time To Visit Valiyaparamba Backwaters (Bekal) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Valiyaparamba Backwaters, Bekal

The best time to visit the tranquil Valiyaparamba Backwaters in Bekal, Kerala is during the cooler, dry months from October to March. This period is ideal as the climate is most suitable for backwater cruises and other tourist activities. Temperatures during these months are generally pleasant, ranging from 22°C to 30°C, ensuring a comfortable experience for visitors. Additionally, this is the season with the least amount of rainfall, which means fewer disruptions to travel plans and outdoor activities. The beauty of the backwaters is enhanced post-monsoon as the landscape is lush and green, making it a photographer’s delight.

However, visitors should consider avoiding the monsoon season from June to September when the region experiences heavy rainfall, which could lead to cancellation of backwater tours and make sightseeing challenging. Despite this, some travelers may find the monsoon period appealing because Kerala's landscape is at its most vibrant during these months, and the tourist spots are less crowded. For those who are looking to enjoy the festive ambiance, visiting during the famous Onam festival in August or September can also be a mesmerizing experience, when the culture of Kerala is in full display. It is essential to book accommodations in advance if planning to visit during festivals or peak season to ensure availability.
