Vattakottai Fort, located in the coastal town of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, India, is a seaside fort that carries with it a rich historical significance. Constructed in the 18th century during the reign of the Travancore kingdom, this fort was part of a series of coastal fortifications designed for defense purposes. Built under the supervision of Captain Eustachius De Lannoy, the fort is a structure encapsulating a blend of Indian and European architectural styles. It overlooks the vast and beautiful Laccadive Sea, offering panoramic views that are truly mesmerizing. The fort's walls are made of granite blocks, and it features a small pond within. The ramparts of the fort stretch out towards the sea, and there's a beach that runs alongside it, which makes for a scenic spot. Vattakottai Fort has recently been renovated, preserving its historical edifice while making it more accessible to tourists. It remains a testament to the architectural prowess of its era and gives insight into the maritime strategies of the past. The fort also holds cultural significance, as it marks the end of Kanyakumari's mainland and is a reminder of the region's historical relations with other maritime entities.

Great granite fort
This was originally built by Pandya kings as mud fort. Later was reconstructed as granite fort by De Lennoy, commander of Travancore Army. Great fort with separate slope for taking artillery and lots ..
