Viper Island is a serene, beautiful isle situated near Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Historically significant, this island was once used by the British to detain political prisoners and harbor a colonial jail, predating the notorious Cellular Jail. The remnants of the jail and the gallows atop a hillock offer a glimpse into the grim past. The island owes its name to the vessel 'H.M.S. Viper' in which Lt. Archibald Blair came to the islands. It is rumored that the ship met with an accident and its wreckage was found near the island. Viper Island is blessed with a tranquil environment and scenic beauty. Mangrove forests and rugged coastline frame the island, making it a picturesque locale. Boat rides around the island provide an opportunity to witness the striking marine life and coral reefs. Its historical significance and natural splendor make it a poignant and captivating destination for travelers seeking reflection or relaxation amidst nature's beauty.
