Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, located near Wandoor on the south-western coast of South Andaman, is a sanctuary of rich marine life and vibrant coral reefs. Covering an area of around 281.5 square kilometers, the park constitutes open sea, creeks, and 15 small and large islands. It was established in 1983 with the objective of protecting marine life inclusive of the coral reefs, sea turtles, and nesting sea birds. Jolly Buoy and Red Skin islands are two noteworthy destinations within the park, known for their splendid snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. This park also acts as a significant breeding ground for turtles. The park's visitor center at Wandoor provides essential insights and has a small museum. The marine life here encompasses a variety of corals, fish, mollusks, and shellfish. The lush mangrove ecosystem can be seen along the creeks, which is essential for sustaining the local fish population and the integrity of the coastline.
