Alpather Lake Tourism

Alpather Lake is a stunning high-altitude water body that lies just beyond Apharwat Peak in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The lake is cradled at the foothills of the Apharwat mountain range, remaining frozen until late June. Alpather Lake is situated approximately 13 kilometers away from the town of Gulmarg and is accessible by a challenging trek that starts at the gondola base station in Gulmarg. This serene and pristine lake is triangular in shape and is often referred to as the 'Frozen Lake' due to its icy state well into the summer. Surrounded by rocky mountains and lush meadows that are covered with a variety of wildflowers during summer, the lake offers a picturesque and tranquil spot for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. To reach the lake, visitors often take the second phase of the Gulmarg Gondola to Mt. Apharwat and then proceed on a horseback or trek to the lake. The lush landscapes, accessibility to the lake via thrilling cable car ride, and the breathtaking views of the valley below make this destination a unique and must-visit spot in the Kashmir region.
