Gulmarg Gondola in Jammu and Kashmir is one of the highest operating cable cars in the world, located in the town of Gulmarg. Set in the backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayas, it was designed in collaboration with a French company, Pomagalski. The cable car project is a two-tiered ride that takes tourists to a height of about 4,000 meters above sea level. The first phase of the gondola takes passengers from the Gulmarg resort at 2,600 meters to Kongdoori station in the bowl-shaped Kongdori valley. The second stage takes them to a height of 3,950 meters on the Apharwat Peak. The ride offers panoramic views of Nanga Parbat, one of the highest peaks in the world, and the LOC (Line of Control) between Pakistan and India. The service is highly popular among tourists for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, and for the breathtaking views year-round.
