Arignar Anna Zoological Park, also known as Vandalur Zoo, is situated in Chennai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Spread over 1,490 acres, it is the largest zoological garden in India and one of the largest in the world. Established in 1855, it was the first public zoo in India and has since been transferred to its current location in 1979 to provide more space for the animals. The zoo is well-planned, with different sections allocated for carnivorous animals, reptiles, birds, and more. This environmentally rich atmosphere houses over 170 species of wildlife, including tigers, lions, elephants, and many others in diverse natural habitats. Arignar Anna Zoological Park serves not only as a tourist attraction but also as a conservation and education center, playing a pivotal role in wildlife education and animal conservation efforts. It offers various educational programs, safaris, and has a rescue and rehabilitation center for orphaned and wounded animals.
