Best Time To Visit Baltal Valley (Sonmarg) In 2026 - 2027

Visit Baltal Valley in Sonmarg, Kashmir, India

The Baltal Valley in Sonmarg, Kashmir, is celebrated for its enchanting beauty and serves as a base camp for those embarking on the holy Amarnath Yatra. The most favorable time to visit Baltal Valley is during the summer months, from June to August. This period offers a comfortable climate with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C, which is ideal for sightseeing and exploring the lush landscapes. Summers in the valley provide a respite from the stifling heat of the plains, and the valley is in full bloom with vibrant flora. Moreover, during these months, the annual Amarnath Yatra takes place, making it a bustling hub for pilgrims and tourists alike, creating a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere.

However, it's worth noting that while summer is the peak season for tourism, it can also be quite crowded, especially during the Yatra period. If you prefer a quieter visit, the months of April to June before the Yatra begins, or late August to September after the pilgrimage concludes, might be more suited. During these times, the valley is less crowded but still offers pleasant weather and the chance to enjoy the serene beauty of the region. Nonetheless, it's essential to avoid the winter months from November to February, as the region is covered in snow and most routes are closed due to harsh weather conditions, including the Srinagar-Leh highway which is the primary access road to the valley.
