Boudhanath Stupa is a revered and magnificent Buddhist shrine located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It stands as an iconic symbol of Nepal’s rich cultural tapestry and is a focal point for Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. The stupa's massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal and indeed in the world. Boudhanath has been an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for centuries. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, which underscores its historical and spiritual significance. Adorned with the watchful eyes of Buddha that gaze out from the central tower, the structure is rich in Buddhist symbolism. Prayer wheels and colorful prayer flags encircle the stupa, adding to the sacred ambiance. Devotees can be seen circumambulating the stupa and chanting mantras, providing a serene rhythmic soundtrack to their meditative walk. The site has also become a cultural hub, surrounded by monasteries and shops selling religious artifacts. It suffered damage during the 2015 earthquake but has since been restored, continuing to stand as a beacon of faith and resilience.
