The British Residency of Lucknow is a historical landmark which served as the residence for the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of the Nawab of Awadh. Built in the late 18th century, it became the epicenter during the Siege of Lucknow in 1857, which was part of the Indian Rebellion. The Residency is an example of colonial architecture and includes ruins of buildings that tell the story of the siege, showcasing bullet-marked walls and remains of structures that were once grand. This sprawling complex contains gardens, graves, and ruins that speak of a turbulent past and also houses a museum that presents artefacts and pictorial depictions related to the uprising.
