Rumi Darwaza, also known as the Turkish Gateway, is an imposing gateway located in the city of Lucknow, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. This 60 feet tall structure was constructed in 1784 under the patronage of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula. It is often modeled after the Sublime Porte in Istanbul, hence the name 'Rumi', which signifies its Roman (Byzantine) design influence. As a part of the Nawab's famine relief project, the Rumi Darwaza not only served as an entrance to the old city of Lucknow but also became an architectural marvel of Awadhi style. Intricate carvings adorn the edifice, and it features a beautifully carved flower bud that unfurls at its top. The structure stands as a remnant of the magnificent architectural heritage of the city and is an example of the fusion of Indian and Persian architectural styles.

Great Photo Opportunity
If you are in an e-rickshaw, step out and spend about 5-7 mins taking good pics at this monument. It is a facade-like structure and has different views from either side.
