The Great Buddha Dordenma is a monumental Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Buddha Dordenma itself, is made of bronze and gilded in gold. The massive bronze statue is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world and is perched high on a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park overlooking the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue commemorates the centennial of the Bhutanese monarchy, fulfills an ancient prophecy, and is considered a significant cultural and religious monument that serves to fulfill an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D. The statue itself is 51.5 meters tall and symbolizes indestructibility and peace in the world. It attracts pilgrims from around the region who come to admire its artwork and significance. The location offers a panoramic view of the valley and is a focal point for tourists seeking spiritual connection and cultural experience.

Nice view to the city of Thimphu

- Nice place to view the city of Thimphu from the top - It can get quite windy, so do dress up. - Do make sure your foot wear is easily removable as many places requires to remove shoes.
