How To Reach Echmiadzin

Welcome to Echmiadzin, Armenia

Echmiadzin, also known as Vagharshapat, is the spiritual center of Armenia and is home to the Echmiadzin Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located about 20 kilometers west of the capital, Yerevan, getting to Echmiadzin is straightforward.

By Road:

  • Public Transportation: The most economical way to reach Echmiadzin is by taking a marshrutka (minibus) or a bus from Yerevan. These depart regularly from the Central Bus Station (Kilikia Bus Station) and take around 30 minutes to reach Echmiadzin. The service is usually frequent, cheap, and connections are easy to find.
  • Taxi: You can also hire a taxi from Yerevan, which is more comfortable and faster but also more expensive. Many taxis are available throughout Yerevan, including at the airport and train station.
  • Car Rental: Renting a car in Yerevan and driving to Echmiadzin is also an option. The roads are generally in good condition, and the drive offers flexibility to visit other sights as well.

By Air:

If you are coming from another country, the closest airport is Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport (EVN). From there, you can use any of the road options mentioned above to get to Echmiadzin.

By Train:

There is no direct train service to Echmiadzin. However, you can travel by train to Yerevan from various cities within Armenia and then take road transportation to Echmiadzin.
