Best Time to Visit Eravikulam National Park, Munnar

The Eravikulam National Park in Munnar, Kerala, India, is best known as the habitat of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The Park is also famous for its breathtaking natural beauty and is a popular destination for trekking and nature walks. The most ideal time to visit Eravikulam National Park is during the post-monsoon months from September to November and during the summer season from March to May. These periods typically feature pleasant weather, which is perfect for wildlife spotting and exploring the park's diverse flora and fauna. During these months, the park's landscapes are lush and vibrant, thanks to the preceding monsoon rains, and the temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities.

However, visitors should note that the park usually closes during the calving season of the Nilgiri Tahr, which occurs from February to March, to ensure the safety and conservation of the wildlife. This temporary closure helps in the protection of the species during its critical reproductive phase. Additionally, the park can be quite crowded during the peak tourist season, which coincides with the winter months from December to January. Although the exquisite beauty of the park can still be enjoyed at this time, those looking for a more serene experience might want to avoid the peak season. The monsoon season, which typically lasts from June to August, is less ideal for visiting due to heavy rainfall, which can lead to slippery trails and possible park closures for safety reasons.
