Best Time To Visit Hakgala Botanical Garden (Nuwara Eliya) In 2026 - 2027

Visit the Hakgala Botanical Garden in Nuwara Eliya

The Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the most exquisite attractions in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. The best time to visit the garden is during the spring season, which spans from March to May. During this time, the climate is generally mild and comfortable, with average temperatures ranging between 15°C to 20°C. This period sees the garden bursting into vibrant colors, with a multitude of flowers in full bloom. It's a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the beautifully arranged plant beds, rose gardens, and to witness the rare collection of ferns and orchids at their peak vitality.

Tourists may also consider visiting during the summer months of June to September, when the weather remains relatively dry in the highlands, and the chances of rain are less frequent compared to the monsoon season. While the summer bloom might not be as extensive as in the spring, the garden still presents a lush, green haven, with a serene atmosphere for leisurely walks, picnics, and photography. It is ideal for those looking to escape the tropical heat of other parts of Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, visitors should be wary of occasional showers and the garden's popularity during these months, which might lead to larger crowds.
