By Air

By Sea

Another popular mode of transport is via sea. There are several ferry services that operate routes to Langkawi from various ports in mainland Malaysia and Southern Thailand.

• Kuala Perlis - This is the shortest and most common route to Langkawi, taking about 75 minutes.
• Kuala Kedah - The ferry ride from here will take around 105 minutes.
• Penang - A ferry service operates from Penang to Langkawi, taking approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
• Satun (Thailand) - If you're travelling from Thailand, Satun is the nearest port with ferry services to Langkawi, taking roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes.

By Road

If you're up for a road trip, you can drive to one of the ferry terminals and park your vehicle there before taking the ferry to the island. This combined travel option by road and sea can be a cost-effective and scenic journey.

By Rail

Malaysian Railways (KTM Berhad) provides an extensive rail network that connects to the northern region, where you can get off at Alor Setar (for Kuala Kedah) or Arau (for Kuala Perlis) and then catch a taxi to the respective ferry terminal.

Best Times to Visit

Langkawi is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is from November to April, which is the dry season with minimal rainfall and lots of sunshine, perfect for beach activities and water sports.
