Best Time To Visit Lukla (Nepal) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Lukla, Nepal

The ideal time to visit Lukla, a small town nestled in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal and famous as the starting point for treks to Everest Base Camp, is during the pre-monsoon season, which spans from late February to May, and the post-monsoon season, which runs from late September to November. During these times, the weather in the region is usually stable and provides clear skies, which is essential for both the scenic mountain views and the safe and reliable operation of flights into and out of Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Lukla's main transport hub. Additionally, the temperatures are generally comfortable for trekking, ranging from cool to moderately warm, and the visibility is excellent, offering trekkers awe-inspiring panorama of the Himalaya range.

Although these peak seasons are the most popular among trekkers, they are also the busiest times on the trails. For those looking to avoid the crowds, the shoulder seasons - early February and December - can offer a quieter experience, though the weather can be less predictable with chances of snowfall and colder temperatures. During the monsoon season, from June to early September, the routes are less travelled due to the heavy rains, slippery trails, and potential flight delays caused by poor visibility. Hence, for safety, comfort, and the best experience, late February to May and late September to November are recommended as the optimal periods for visiting Lukla. However, travelers should always be prepared for sudden weather changes in this high-altitude region, regardless of the season.
