History of Tourism

Nestled in the verdant hills of Coorg, also known as Kodagu, Mandalpatti Viewpoint has emerged as a sought-after destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Despite its relatively recent fame, the history of tourism in Coorg dates back to the British era. Known for its coffee plantations, Coorg was a popular retreat for British officers. However, Mandalpatti's potential as a tourist spot was untapped for much of this period.

It was not until the late 20th and early 21st centuries that Mandalpatti began attracting tourists in significant numbers. As the popularity of offbeat and nature-centric destinations grew, Mandalpatti's untouched beauty and panoramic views caught the eye of travelers seeking serenity and adventure away from the bustling city life.

The drive through the dense forests to reach the viewpoint is an experience in itself. With eco-tourism gaining momentum, the viewpoint has become an integral part of the Coorg tourism circuit and is promoted by the state tourism board. The ascent to the top provides a thrilling experience to visitors and the summit offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and the Western Ghats.

Mandalpatti Viewpoint has maintained its charm by limiting commercial activities, thereby preserving its natural beauty—a factor that greatly appeals to today's environmentally-conscious travelers. The fusion of adventure, scenic splendor, and responsible tourism has placed Mandalpatti on the map for tourists visiting Karnataka.
