Meenkara Dam Tourism

Meenkara Dam is a picturesque reservoir situated in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India. Built across the Meenkara River, a tributary of the Gayathripuzha, which is part of the Bharathapuzha River, the dam is primarily utilised for irrigation and water supply purposes. It was completed in the year 1960 and is an integral part of the agricultural landscape providing water for the paddy fields of Palakkad, known as the 'Granary of Kerala'. The area is known for its lush greenery and tranquil surroundings, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and leisurely activities like picnics and bird watching.
